Holy Warriors, Infidels and Peacemakers in Africa

Book

As political ideologies based on religion challenge the notion of a secularly constituted society, the militant holy warrior has taken centre stage. Others from within the same faith communities question the legitimacy of imposing divine order through violence.

Lutheran Eritrean theologian Yacob Tesfai analyzes the religious factor in conflicts on the African continent, as well as ecumenical and inter-religious peace initiatives and the public debate over the "true faith" and its relation to violence.

The book was officially launched by the general secretary of the World Council of Churches Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit on 2 July 2010.

Yacob Tesfai, formerly research professor at the Institute for Ecumenical Research in Strasbourg, France, and senior research officer at the Life and Peace Institute/Horn of Africa Programme, Nairobi, is also the author of The Scandal of a Crucified World and Liberation and Orthodoxy.
