Joan Chapin, a local, regional, and national leader in the United Methodist Church, as well as the United Methodist Women, is actively committed to creating peace with justice. Through a lifetime of peacemaking efforts and devotion to simple living, Ms. Chapin has worked to be a peacemaker. The following are a few of her justice-focused activities:

- teaching junior high school students about justice issues,
- authoring a "Peace is Possible" resolution in Detroit, Michigan, which led to peacemaking workshops across the region,
- serving as a peace advocate in her local church and creating a peace month through the same position.
