Professor Herb Weaver

Bethany Memorial Church, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Professor Herb Weaver, in collaboration with Dr. John Hull, teaches a course at Bethany College called the Art and Science of Peace. Weaver is an active exhibiting artist with a specialty in ceramic sculpture with political and religious themes. Hull is a research psychologist who leads the science portion of the course, teaching students about how non-human primates live peacefully and resolve conflicts with minimum violence, as well as explaining how humans develop their ability to manage conflict.

Weaver teaches students about the implications of peace issues in art, while requiring students to create their own art projects in which they learn about the creative energy needed for peace. These projects affect not only the students creating them, but the rest of the student body and the community that views them.
