Aletha Carter has always been breaking down barriers which separate people, especially those of race. She participates in two different churches, one which is predominately black and another which is predominately white. She has been the driving force behind the partnering of these two churches for worship and joint musical programs. Aletha was instrumental in developing community-wide programs of racial dialogue and understanding. Most recently, she has been the impetus for creating eight slave signal quilts which will be used in an underground railroad enactment at a local college. Her gentle spirit strives in everything she does to be a peacemaker, to bring healing and wholeness to a broken world.
